FATHER SEAMUS MADIGAN, CO-PP – 2022
Limerick-born Fr Séamus Madigan was appointed CO-PP to Pastoral Area One on Saturday 10th September 2022. He has responsibility for the Parish of Monaleen within the Pastoral Area of St Patrick’s/St Brigid’s, St Michael’s, St. John’s, Milford and Monaleen.
Previously, Fr Seamus served as Head Chaplain to the Irish Defence Forces from October 2015 which followed nine years as Chaplain at Sarsfield Barracks in Limerick with the 12 Infantry Battalion. During his time with the military, Fr Seamus has served on overseas peacekeeping missions in Kosovo, Chad, Lebanon and Syria.
At his first Mass in Monaleen as Co-PP, Fr Seamus thanked Fr Ger Garrett for his warm welcome to Monaleen and the Pastoral Unit. He spoke of his familiarity with this area; how he served as curate in Milford Parish from 1996 to 2000 with the Salesians and afterwards as Chaplain at Castletroy College from 2000 to 2006. Having ministered in the local area for ten years, he feels his current appointment is like a coming home.
Fr Seamus also spoke at his first Mass of his delighted at being appointed to a Faith Community and Church dedicated to St Mary of Magdala when he said;
“I take this as a signpost, for our future ministry together! May we recognise the RISEN LORD through the intimacy of our encounters with each person. The mission statement of this Faith Community affirms, All are welcome! I hope together, we might continue to put flesh on these words and be a people of Compassion, Inclusion and Engagement (C.I.E.).

Fr Séamus was ordained in Croagh, Co. Limerick, in 1991 and is a Catholic Priest of the diocese of Limerick. He is 59 years old. He enjoys travel and spending time with his family. His mother Kathleen lives in County Limerick and he is the eldest of seven siblings; one brother and six sisters, all of whom live in Ireland.
